Greetings
Welcome to the inaugural edition of my faith blog, titled “Fishin For Wisdom.” Here, I will share my journey of faith and the many lessons that come with it. Let’s dive in!
Guard your heart
“Above all things, guard your heart, for it directs the course of your life” (Proverbs 4:23).
This scripture resonates deeply with me. There have been times when I allowed my heart to be swayed by the desires of others, leading to turbulent waters and the need for significant course correction.
The Call to Change
“If you know better, do better.”
When I began my relationship with Jesus, I realized I needed to change my thoughts and actions. This was a pivotal moment for me, as it required letting go of things that no longer served my well-being. I cherished my activities and the people I was with, but I recognized they were detrimental to my spiritual health.
Trusting in the Lord with all my heart and leaning not on my own understanding meant surrendering my ways for His. This transformation wasn’t instantaneous, and it remains a work in progress, but I knew I had to take that first step.
See It Through
One significant realization was that my choice to consume certain types of media was a self-imposed obstacle. God calls us to meditate on His word so that we may have life abundantly, yet we often get caught up in worldly distractions. What the world defines as success or fulfillment can cloud our judgment. Instead, we must ask ourselves: What does the Word say?
Changing Your Mindset
Transforming the way you think and act requires intentional effort. As the scripture reminds us, “faith without works is dead.” The Lord corrects those He loves, and that correction must be put into action. I learned that while I enjoyed listening to certain voices—friends, comedians, athletes—I needed to prioritize the wisdom found in God’s word.
This meant cutting out the noise that distracted me from my spiritual growth.
A Practical Approach
I made a conscious effort to protect my mornings from worldly media. Instead of diving into emails or social media, I chose to open my Bible and a devotional. I realized that the power I was giving to external influences wasn’t yielding a worthy return on investment. I knew what truly mattered.
The Best Return on Investment
The greatest return on investment has been allowing God’s assurances to guide my day. With His promises, I find the strength and courage to face each day with hope. His peace surpasses all understanding, equipping me with everything I need to seize the day confidently, knowing He will provide and never leave nor forsake me. He hasn’t let me down yet!
